How can you tell the difference between a olive and grey green budgie?
Here are some of the common differences between these 2 mutations with pictures to help you identify each mutation. Look at the cheek patches, body color, and main tail feathers for the best indications of which mutation your budgie is.
Normal olives will have deep violet cheek patches. The grey green color adding factor effects the cheek patches causing them to be blue/grey rather than violet.
Deep Violet
Blue Or Grey
Olives have a deep green color to the body. A grey green budgie will usually have a lighter tone of green to the body, although dark factors will effect the deepness of the color.
Deep Olive
Medium To Deep Olive
The main tail feathers of these 2 mutations are very different if you look closely. Olives like all normal green series budgies will have blue main tail feathers, while a grey green will have a deep black.
