I have heard some say that English budgies don't live as long as pet type ones. I myself have not found this to be true. The biggest factor that decides how long they live is their diet and living conditions, their breeding, and how they were fed as a baby!
A bird that was raised in a bird mill and was inbred and fed only seeds and water by its parents while growing as a chick only eats seed and is kept in a small cramped cage with little to no exercise as an adult will be doing really good to live 5 years tops, if it is lucky.
However if they have a good diet while they are growing( Pellets, egg food, veggies, seeds and lots of good supplements as chicks) and a good diet of pellets, fruits and veggies, occasional hard boiled eggs mashed, a little seed for treats and training only, and lots of space and time out of their cage for exercise as an adult they can live 15-20 years easily! It really just depends on how they are cared for and how they were raised as a baby.
